Blake Webb was a beautiful boy with piercing blue eyes and blonde hair. He was tenacious, carefree, funny, affectionate, and a perfectionist. He was thoughtful and considerate, putting others before himself. Blake enjoyed hiking, fishing, snowboarding, collecting model cars, and most of all riding his motorcycle. One of the best words to describe Blake is “unique”.
Blake started riding a motorcycle when he was 8 years old, his first being a Yamaha TTR 90. He then rode a Honda XR 100 when he was 10. At age 12, he purchased a 1991 Kawasaki KX 80 with money he earned mowing lawns and washing cars. Blake transformed his bike using a picture of an ‘07 Kawasaki as a template for refurbishing his motorcycle. Today the motorcycle looks brand new, and sits as a reminder of his ingenuity, work ethic, and pursuit of perfection. Blake’s passion was riding a motorcycle, it was a challenge, and a positive outlet. You could feel the freedom he enjoyed when he would start his bike, and journey off to explore new trails or ride to the lake to go fishing. It is truly a wonderful memory.
On March 17, 2007 our beloved son Blake Arden Webb lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident while practicing on a track in Richland, WA. Blake cleared a double jump, and then fell over. As Blake was trying to get back up, an approaching rider, who was not cautioned by a flag, and unaware Blake was down on the other side, came over the jump and struck him.
In memory of Blake, family and friends have established the BLAKE WEBB MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization that promotes safety, education, and training. The foundation has already used proceeds to purchase yellow flags with the motto, “Grab a Flag, Save a Life” imprinted on them, and has donated these flags to local area tracks. Our founding wish is to save lives through safety awareness, and contribute to a sport Blake loved.
