The BLAKE WEBB MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS FOUNDATION
A non-profit organization dedicated to increasing motocross safety while on and off the track. Our mission is to make riders, parents, track owners, and promoters aware of the importance of riding safe! "Grab a Flag, Save a Life!" BW9
The BLAKE WEBB MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS FOUNDATION works hard to promote safety at motocross tracks.
Our goal is to have a trained flagger at every jump at every motocross track at every practice.
Another goal is to seperate riders according to bike size during open practice. The 50's should be on a pee wee track or their own practice. The 65's and 85's should have their own practice time seperate from the bigger bikes, which are 125's, 250's and 450's.
These two safety guidelines would have prevented the loss of Blake's life.
Blake Webb was a beautiful boy with piercing blue eyes and blonde hair. He was tenacious, carefree, funny, affectionate, and a perfectionist. He was thoughtful and considerate, putting others before himself. Blake enjoyed hiking, fishing, snowboarding, collecting model cars, and most of all riding his motorcycle. One of the best words to describe Blake is...unique.
Blake started riding motorcycles when he was 8 years old, his first being a Yamaha TTR 90. He then rode a Honda XR 100. In the summer of 2006 he purchased a '91 Kawasaki KX-80 with money he earned mowing lawns and washing cars. Blake transformed the '91 KX, he used a picture of '07 Kawasaki as a template for refurbishing his motorcycle. Today, the motorcycle looks brand new, and sits as a reminder of his ingenuity, work ethic, and pursuit of perfection. Blake's passion was riding a motorcycle, it was a challenge, and a positive outlet. You could feel the freedom he enjoyed when he would start his bike and journey off to explore new trails or ride to the lake to go fishing, it is truly a wonderful memory.
On March 17, 2007, our beloved 12 year old son Blake Arden Webb lost his life in a tragic motorcycle accident while practicing on a track in Richland, WA. Blake cleared a double jump and then fell over. As Blake was trying to get back up, an approaching rider on a much larger bike, who was not cautioned by flag, and unaware Blake was down on the other side, came over the jump and struck him.
In memory of Blake, family and friends have established the BLAKE WEBB MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization that promotes safety, education, and training. The foundation has used proceeds to purchase yellow flags with the motto, "Grab A Flag, Save A Life" and has donated these flags to motocross tracks. Our wish is to save lives through safety awareness, while contributing to a sport Blake loved.
